KCS Consultants are pleased to announce the release of the Civil Suite 2010 incorporating now the Terrain, Water, GIS, Sewer and Road design modules.

NOTE: IMPORTANT NEWS! The latest version has been made available for download (21 March 2012). The next update will be made available for download as from 30 April 2012. Click here to download the update...

As from this release, individual modules can now be purchased separately. All existing CivilSuite users will automatically have all the modules enabled on their current dongles. Watch this space for important news on the future pricing structure of the CivilSuite.

The original Road, Sewer and Sewer Network design programs have been around for about  fifteen years, and therefore proven themselves.  They are still in use by Consulting Engineers and Contractors countrywide.   The Terrain program, which has been on the market for nearly two years now and has also enjoyed great success in the marketplace.   The older Roads and Sewer packages have now been integrated with the Terrain and in addition, the CAD and GIS functionality has been enhanced even further.  The suite now also incorporates a Water Network Analysis module based on US EPANet engine.

The fully integrated suite of programs listed above have now been re-released as the CIVIL SUITE 2010 - all this at an unbelievable price of  R25 000 excl VAT per workstation.

Not only have these programs been integrated into one common interface but the functionality has been enhanced within each module as well.  This integrated interface not only allows the designer to work with his/her DWG/DXF drawing natively (without the need for a separate CAD license), but also includes a  Terrain model capable of handling 1 000 000 points at unbelievable speeds, a Sewer model which effectively does around 99% of the work, and competent / comprehensive Road and Water design modules to round off the package.

A statement which we can unequivocally state is this: "The Sewer module alone makes this package pay for itself.  The time saved in completing just one sewer network design will cover the cost of the package a few times over."

Sewer Module Terrain  Module

The Sewer module automatically completes almost 99% of your foulsewer designs for you.  All the user is effectively required to do is to plan and define the drainage route.

The program coordinates the sewer manholes, interpolates levels along the routes, generates the erf connection details and uses these in the analysis.  All branches are fully integrated into one network model ensuring levels are consistent throughout.

Final longitudinal sections and quantities are also calculated from the model.

To view a sample final longitudinal section as output from the Sewer module click <here>.  To view the results of the erf connection design click <here>.  Both outputs have been provided as DWG files for viewing purposes.

Click <here> to download a brochure on the features of the older sewer program here in PDF format.  While the brochure has not been updated, the features are similar. The current interface is of course also different due to incorporation of this program into the Civil Suite.

For those users who require updates to the older standalone Sewer program, please note that updates are available from the web site:

The Terrain  module is able to comfortably handle up to 200 million points with ease and is the core module within the CIVIL SUITE 2010.

The Water, Sewer and Roads modules derive their levels from the surfaces in the Terrain.  Up to 10 individual surfaces can be modeled simultaneously. Terrain also does the contouring, volume calculations for cut / fill, calculation of cut / fill embankments / platforms etc.

The program is also able to import data from competitors systems thereby creating compatibility within the design office.  Imagine the usefulness of your CAD standard working directly with your Terrain / Design packages without the need to convert your drawings beforehand.

The built-in DWG CAD editor offers the user all the basic CAD manipulation functions as well as providing imaging support as well.

Download a brochure on the features of the Terrain  module <here> in PDF format.

Please note that these older products have been discontinued as they are completely encapsulated in the CIVIL SUITE 2010.

Water Module Roads Module

The Water analysis module is based on the EPANet system.   Results are 100% the same as those produced by EPANet due to the common analysis system employed.

The incorporation of this module in the Civil Suite allows the water module to interpolate levels from the Terrain automatically.

In addition, the pipe lengths and node positions etc. are automatically determined from the DWG/DXF drawing loaded.

Our thanks to Francois Kritzinger BSc. Hons @ UCT who did the conversion of  this module from Delphi to C++.

The Roads module is a rewrite of the older standalone Roads program from around 15 years back.

Just one unique features added just recently is the ability to define a network of roads and incorporate the output of each individual road design into a merged Terrain surface.  This surface  can  subsequently be used for the designs of the sewer or stormwater longitudinal sections.

Download a brochure of the older Roads program <here>.  While the brochure has not been updated, the features are still very similar. The current interface is of course also different due to incorporation of this program into the Civil Suite.

For those users who require updates to the older Roads program please note that updates are available from the web site

GIS Module
Stormwater Module

The GIS module not only allows the user to read Arcview SHP files (point / line and polygon ), but also to capture and edit data in these databases.

Specific GIS capture tools have been developed for the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Municipality to assist in the data capture of all sewer and stormwater infrastructure.

In addition, the Civil Suite also allows the use of images stored as either JPG, BMP, TIFF or MrSID image formats.  Images which are georeferenced can be inserted directly in the DWG file format.  Redraws of these images are accomplished at lightning speeds as use is made of the popular Leadtools Raster Imaging Pro Tookit.

The Stormwater module is currently under development and will be based on SWMM 5 engine as produced by the US EPA.

Expected delivery date of this module is June 2006.

Effectively this will be a C++ rewrite of the EPA SWMM model but with additional functionality similar to that demonstrated by the Water module which is based on the US EPANet program.

  • Company Profile

KCS Consultants was formed by Director Keith Simon (*) approximately 15 years ago with the purposes of providing IT support in the form of hardware sales/support, software development and training for Civil Engineering Professionals due to the lack of support / poor support / poor tools available from existing software and hardware vendors.

We need tools that are not only fully functional, but also available to all staff within the organisation. These must be affordable as well.

This is the ethos that still prevails in the company today.  From the humble beginnings of a single developer to a successful team of four developers the company is now poised for growth never seen before in the local industry.

(*) As a Professional Civil Engineer with over 19 years of experience, Keith understands the demands of the industry.  He is also actively involved in the Civil Engineering Industry as the Business Unit Manager of the Port Elizabeth office of   Ninham Shand Consulting Services. He also serves on the Board of Directors of Ninham Shand (Pty) Ltd.

Initially efforts were concentrated on the Sewer and Roads programs, however, since the release of the Terrain Modeler two years ago, these older programs have now been combined into one common interface with the result that we believe we have one of the most comprehensive design tools available for Civil Engineers - all at an amazingly low price.

In addition to the above mentioned Road, Sewer and Terrain programs, we have added a Water Network Analysis module based on EPA-Net as well as increased the GIS / CAD support to round off the tools required by our Civil Engineering Professionals.

We have for a number of years believed, and in fact been informed so by numerous clients,  that our Sewer Design program is one of the best yet seen.  Download the demonstration videos today and see this functionality for yourself.   The engine used in this very Sewer Module is around fifteen years old and while it is therefore very robust and proven by clients for a number of years, it is this very engine which has now been incorporated in the Terrain Module to enhance its functionality ten-fold.

This functionality seen in the Sewer Module has been expanded and enhanced much further to the point where we are now able to deliver to the end user our CIVIL SUITE 2010 in its present form.
